Born in Lachine, Quebec, ISABELLE DEMERS started studying the piano at the age of 6 and was admitted to the Montreal Conservatory of music at age 11 as a student of Madeleine Belanger and Raoul Sosa on piano and Jean LeBuis and Regis Rousseau on organ. After graduating in May 2003 (piano-organ), Ms. Demers studied at the Ecole Normale de Paris-Alfred Cortot during 2003-2004 thanks to a Canadian Council for the Arts scholarship. She received her Masters degree from the Juilliard School in 2006, and is currently a C.V. Starr doctoral fellow at Juilliard where she studies organ with Paul Jacobs. Ms. Demers has been a prize-winner and finalist in many international competitions, including Miami, Dublin, Arthur-Poister (Syracuse) and the RCCO organ playing competition. Recently Ms. Demers played recitals at Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, St. Philips Cathedral in Atlanta, St. Mary in Norwalk, CT, Washington National Cathedral, First Presbyterian Church in Allentown, PA, as well as in various venues in Quebec. In Europe she has performed in Casalmaggiore and Sabbionetta, Italy, Pisek, Czech Republic and in Paris and Bucharest. Upcoming engagements include recitals in Boston, MA, Harrisburg, PA, San Francisco, CA, St. Petersburg, FL, Vancouver, BC, as well as in Quebec City. Ms. Demers also performs music for two organs with Daniel Sullivan, and in May of 2007, they premiered their original two-person, two-organ transcription of Prokofievs Peter and the Wolf. Ms. Demers has recently been appointed organ scholar at Christ Church, in Greenwich, CT. |
