TIMOTHY ALLEN was born in St. Albans, England and attended St. Alban’s School. While there he studied the organ at St. Alban’s Cathedral with Stephen Darlington. In 1981 he was elected as Organ Scholar at Gonville and Caius College at Cambridge University where he completed his Master’s degree in Music and studied organ with Nicolas Kynaston. In 1986 Timothy was appointed Assistant Master of the Music at Chelmsford Cathedral in Essex, England. He made two commercial recordings and several broadcasts for the BBC with the cathedral choir and his accompaniments were highly acclaimed. In 1991 he was appointed Organist and Master of the Choristers at St. Columb’s Cathedral in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. While there he resuscitated the Men and Boys Choir and, together with his counterpart at Derry’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, Donal Doherty, he founded the Two Cathedrals Festival. This major cross-community Festival became Northern Ireland’s premier music event and won several awards for its groundbreaking work. Timothy came to the USA in 2001 and has spent five years working in St. Louis, MO, before his appointment to Trinity Cathedral in October 2006. Timothy is married to the American soprano Christine Westhoff. On 21 November 2006, Mr. Allen was named Canon Precentor of Trinity Cathedral by the Executive Committee of the Diocese.
