| DAVID GOODENOUGH has been Housemaster of Carrington House at Fettes College in Edinburgh since September 2005; he was promoted to that post having been Director of Music at Fettes for the preceding seven years. He received his early musical education at Hutton Grammar School, near Preston, Lancashire before going to the Guildhall School of Music to study the Organ in 1987. During his time in London, David was Organ Scholar (for two years) at The Royal Parish Church of St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square. He graduated in 1990 and, following a year studying Organ Performance on the Guildhalls Advanced Solo Studies course, David was appointed Assistant Organist at Blackburn Cathedral and Assistant Director of Music at St Wilfrids High School in the city. During five years in post at the cathedral, David was Organist and Conductor for numerous recordings and BBC broadcasts, and his premiere recording of Sir Charles Woods virtuoso Prelude and Fugue in G Minor on the Priory label received wide critical acclaim. Alongside as his duties at Fettes, David continues to freelance as an Organist. Well-known for his skills in improvisation, most of his recitals include improvisations on material submitted by the audience. On a number of occasions, he has given complete recitals of improvised material. He has performed in many of the UKs cathedrals and major parish churches, together with recent concerts in Edinburghs Usher and McEwan Halls and he has also been the Organist for a number of BBC TV and Radio broadcasts. David also sings tenor with the Exon Singers, one of the UKs leading Chamber Choirs with whom he has also recently acted as Composer in Residence. Todays concert in St. Thomass marks the end of a nine-day tour of North America which has seen David perform in San Francisco, Minneapolis and New York. |
