Stained Glass Windows Restoration

Above, Julie Sloan narrates a video of part of the Stained Glass Window Restoration process, which began several years ago. The restoration of the blue windows in the reredos is complete, as is the restoration of all of the windows along the north side of the church. The restoration of the rose window, as well as of all the windows along the south side of the church, await further donations.

On Sunday, March 14, 2010, Julie Sloan, Bill Wright, and Barbara Pettus updated the parish on the Stained Glass Windows Restortation Project as it stood after the completion of the restoration of the north windows.  You may listen to the presentation by clicking here.

The pictures on the sidebar on the right side of your screen show some of the gloriously restored windows. But there is much more work to be done. So we continue to ask everyone to give generously to our Capital Campaign to complete this much-needed restoration.

In the photo above, you can see not just the grime that has collected, but the damage that has been sustained to pieces of stained glass, each which was painstakingly removed, carefully catalogued, fully restored, reassembled, and then put back into place to create the fully restored windows that you see on the right of your screen. In the photo below, you can see how each tiny piece of glass fits into just one small part of a single panel.

Our church doors are open 365 days a year, usually from about 7:30am until early evening, except on national holidays, when we are typically only open for a couple hours around noon. We invite you to come and see the restoration project yourself. You immediately will notice the difference between the windows on the north side (restored) and the window on the south side (not yet restored). We also invite you to see the Capital Campaign display in a case located in the narthex of the church, at the Fifth Avenue entrance.
