Theology Update for the Week of October 26

Dear friends in Christ

Tuesday, October 28, 6:30: Aquinas on faith. After a few weeks’ off, this class will look at what the “angelic doctor” says about faith as a virtue, i.e., something that finds its place deep in our character. You don’t need to do any advance reading–and you needn’t have come to the earlier classes. We meet on the 3rd floor in Andrew Hall, where there are also coffee and tea and cookies. The subsequent class will be on November 18.

Looking ahead:

On Sunday, November 2, Dr. Robert Duvall will speak on the latest book of Christian Wiman’s poems, Once in the West. Dr Duvall is calling his class, Mortality, yearning, and faith: new poems by Christian Wiman. The class will read and discuss some of these poems of “the mind finding what will suffice.” There will be a handout.

On Monday, November 17, I will lead a discussion of the first 17 cantos of Dante’s Paradiso.

Peace
