Theology Update for the Week of November 2

Dear friends in Christ,

This coming Sunday at 10 am, Dr. Robert Duvall will speak on the latest book of Christian Wiman’s poems, Once in the West. We are calling this class, Mortality, yearning, and faith: new poems by Christian Wiman. Dr. Duvall is eager to share some of these poems that concern “the mind finding what will suffice.” Anyone interested is welcome to drop in: the class meets on the fifth floor.

Sunday’s will be the only class next week. On the following Sunday, November 9, I will begin a Bible study of Ecclesiastes, and that will be repeated on the following Thursday (November 13) at 12:40 p.m.

And looking a bit further ahead: On Monday, November 17, the Divine Comedy seminar resumes with a discussion of the first 17 cantos of Dante’s Paradiso. Anyone who reads the text is welcome; you don’t have to have read or participated in the earlier seminars on Inferno and Purgatorio. The class meets in Andrew Hall from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.

And then on Tuesday, November 18, at 6:30 pm, the “Doctrinal Tuesdays” classes on Aquinas on faith will resume and will meet for three consecutive Tuesdays (Nov 18, Nov 25, and Dec 2).

A blessed All Saints’ Day to each of you – and let us join in prayer that our beloved who have died will rest in the peace of Jesus. Peace,
