Theology Update for the Week of November 9

Dear friends in Christ,

Sunday, November 9, saw the first class on Ecclesiastes, that wonderfully cheery book of wisdom. “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” I’ll repeat the class on Thursday at 12:40pm on the 2nd floor for those of you who were unable to attend on Sunday.

The next week, other classes resume: A seminar on Dante’s Paradiso will be held on Monday, November 17, from 6:15 to 7:45pm; we’ll be discussing cantos 1-17. You need to have read them in order to participate, but it isn’t necessary to have read Inferno or Purgatorio. And then on Tuesday, November 18, the Aquinas on faith class will pick up and meet for three successive Tuesdays (each at 6:30 pm). For the Aquinas class, no advance reading is expected.

I also wanted to mention that on Friday at 7:30pm, I am giving a talk to the New York C. S. Lewis Society on “Teaching C. S. Lewis.” If it sounds interesting to you, you may attend; the lecture/meeting is free and open to the public. It is not at Saint Thomas Church, however: see details here.

. . . There are a lot of famous lines that come from Ecclesiastes. I’m looking forward to studying it with many of you.

Peace,
Father Austin
