Tuesday, November 1, 2011
6:20pm - 8:00pm -
Saint Thomas Church
An audio webcast of this lecture is available at the bottom of the page.
Immediately following the 5:30 p.m. Festal Eucharist for All Saints' Day, the Very Rev'd Robert Willis, Dean of Canterbury, gives a talk on Canterbury Cathedral. The talk takes place in the Church with a reception to follow in Andrew Hall.
The Cathedral's history goes back to 597AD when St Augustine, sent by Pope Gregory the Great as a missionary, established his seat (or 'Cathedra') in Canterbury. In 1170 Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered in the Cathedral and ever since, the Cathedral has attracted thousands of pilgrims, as told famously in Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
The mission of Canterbury Cathedral is a simple and powerful four-word objective: 'to show people Jesus.'
The presentation is free and open to everyone.
