The Fourth Sunday In Lent (Laetare)

Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which giveth life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

5:15 p.m.

The Saint Thomas Organ Recital Series is free and open to the public. Usually starting very close to 5:15pm, it follows the 4pm service on most Sundays from September through May. The use of cameras and recording devices is strictly prohibited during the performance.

Today’s recital is by Roger Judd of Hereford, UK. He will play the following program On the Loening-Hancock Organ:

Magnificat primi toni, BuxWV 203
Dietrich Buxtehude (c. 1637-1707)

Partita on ‘Nun last uns Gott’
Vincent Lübeck (1654-1740)

Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (2 verses)
Georg Böhm (1661-1733)

Allein Gott, in der Höh sei Ehr, BWV 662
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

Toccata and Fugue in d ‘Dorian’, BWV 538
Johann Sebastian Bach

Dear supporters of the Organ Recital Series,

In planning next year’s set of Sunday Evening recitals, we have been considering a change of time for the weekly organ recital from post-Evensong at 5.15pm to pre-Evensong at 3.15pm.

This would function as an extended 40 minute prelude to Evensong by both guest recitalists and the resident organists, just as happens now.

The reason for the change would be to encourage more people to attend both the recital and Evensong on a Sunday after a lunch break and also to not clash with the recital series at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine which is also at 5.15pm.

We would welcome your feedback on this matter, if you feel strongly that either this is an exciting idea and more practical or if you have reason to believe that the recital series should remain at the existing time of 5.15pm. We hope to make a decision in the next couple of months about next season’s recitals.

Please email your thoughts to our dedicated email address for this matter:

We look forward to hearing from you.

With all best wishes,

The Organists of Saint Thomas Church
