How Will the Project Work?
 |
Stage 1 involves the erection of scaffolding at the Clerestory level on the North side of the building, to provide a safe platform for the removal of each of the windows on that side. The scaffolding will not intrude on the floor of the church, but will necessitate the installation of temporary lighting. To minimize disruption in the church, the scaffolding will be brought over the roof of the building and fed through the windows themselves, so you will notice first the removal of one panel in each window for that purpose. Once the scaffolding is in place, the windows will be physically removed, one at a time, and taken to artisans studios for restoration. As each window is removed, a decorative scrim will be placed in front of the empty frame. Following restoration, the windows will be re-installed in their original positions. |

glazing. It is so reflective that the stained
glass behind it is invisible, virtually erasing
the window from the façade.

Stage 2 will see the dismantling of the scaffolding on the North side and its reerection on the South side so that the process can be repeated there.
Stage 3 will see work done on the remaining windows, including the Rose Window and those behind the Reredos. The project will be completed by November 21, 2011 the Centennial of the laying of the Cornerstone.
