This CD, engineered by Frederick Hohman, features two early works of Louis Vierne (1870-1937), the former organist of Notre-Dame in Paris: the Messe Solennelle, Op. 16, and the Première Symphonie pour Grand Orgue, Op. 14. In the Messe Solennelle, the choir and the organ (played by Jeremy Bruns) are joined by the Saint Thomas Brass, in an arrangement by Scott McIntosh. In addition to the complete First Organ Symphony, John Scott plays two selections from the 24 Pieces in Free Style of Vierne, which are interspersed between movements of the Messe Solennelle.
