| The Chantry Chapel is used for daily services, Baptisms, and small weddings and funerals. The triptych is of carved oak, polychromed and gilt, and is a copy of one in Florence. The Altar is covered with a damask frontal appliqued with a likeness of Our Lady of Walsingham. At the top of the triptych is The Annunciation by the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary. Flanking these two figures are two angels with scrolls inscribed Behold the handmaiden of the Lord and Be it done unto me according to Thy will. The three panels represent the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, the marriage at Cana, and Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Above each panel is an appropriate text: One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it, and I am the Resurrection and the Life. At the base of the reredos, angels hold a banner inscribed, The Lord bless thee out of Sion (below, right). The windows in this chapel honor great women of the Church: The Virgin Mary, St. Elizabeth, Dorcas and Phoebe, St. Agnes, St. Dorothy, St. Helena, and St. Elizabeth of Hungary. |
