Solemn Requiem
Sunday November 14, 2010
11:00 am - Saint Thomas Church
Remembrance Day at Saint Thomas is kept with services at 8am and 9am, a Solemn Requiem at 11am, and a Choral Evensong at 4pm in memory of those who have given their lives in service of our country.
As you think about the faithful departed, consider these sermons:
The Resurrection of the Body, and the Life Everlasting. Amen. (2011) by Fr Austin
The Souls Departed -- Safe and Sound (2008) by Fr Mead
Back from the Dead (2008) by Fr Mead
Prayer for the Dead (2007) Fr Mead
Why Pray for the Dead? (2003) by Fr Mead
Spiritual Wholeness -- The Resurrection (2002) by Fr Mead
Collect:
O God, the Maker and Redeemer of all believers: Grant to the faithful departed the unsearchable benefits of the passion of thy Son; that on the day of his appearing they may be manifested as thy children; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
►If you are worshipping with us in person:
■Please be aware that silence is kept for several minutes before 11am as well as for a few moments after the singing of In Paradisum, until the Choir has departed.
■Holy Communion is given in the Chantry and at the base of the chancel steps. The Sacrament will not be given at the High Altar rail due to the orchestra, which will be situated between the choir stalls in the chancel.
►If you are listening via the webcast, these details might help you to understand the periods of silence:
■There is neither a Prelude nor an Organ Voluntary Postlude at this service.
■The Choir, led by a cross, enter at 10:58am in silence. After the 11am bell tolls, the Choir sings the Intoit from their places in the chancel while the Clergy, led by another cross, enter.
■The Gospel is read among the people. The silence you hear after the Gospel is the time it takes for the Cross, Torches and Priests to return to their places in the chancel before the sermon.
