In honor of the Tenth Anniversary, in 2015, of the Girl Chorister Course at Saint Thomas Church, the Choir School and John Scott, Director of Music, invite you to create a newly composed, unpublished setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis for upper voices (SS) with some divisi and organ accompaniment, using the 1662/Rite I Text. The Magnificat should not exceed four minutes in length and the Nunc Dimittis should be limited to three minutes. The compositions should be approachable for established girl/boy choir programs. Submission deadline is January 30, 2014.
The entries will be judged by a panel of four distinguished musicians:
- Sarah Baldock, Organist and Master of the Choristers, Chichester Cathedral, U.K.
- Judith Bingham, Composer
- Sarah MacDonald, Fellow and Director of Music, Selwyn College, Cambridge, and Director, Ely Cathedral Girls’ Choir
- John Scott, Organist and Director of Music, Saint Thomas Church, New York
Two winners will be announced on July 1, 2014. Awards to the winners are as follows: First Prize $3,000, Second Prize $2,000. Performances to be sung at Evensong by the 2015 Girl Choristers Course.
