Invitation to Rector's Institution

You are cordially invited to the Institution of The Reverend Carl F. Turner as thirteenth Rector of Saint Thomas Church. The Institution takes place today: Tuesday, October 21, at 5:30 p.m., The Right Reverend Andrew M. L. Dietsche, Bishop of New York, presiding. Music will be provided by The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys, joined by The Saint Thomas Brass, under the direction of John Scott. The preacher will be The Reverend Dr Mark McIntosh, Professor of Christian Spirituality at Loyola University Chicago. Professor McIntosh was a seminarian at St Stephen’s House, Oxford, with Fr Turner and completed his seminary life at the General Theological Seminary here in New York where he was attached to Saint Thomas when Fr Andrew was Rector. Professor McIntosh has just returned from a five year appointment as a Professor of Divinity at the University of Durham in England where, by happy coincidence, Fr Turner studied theology himself in the late 1970s.

Music for Fr Turner’s Institution will include

  • Missa Brevis – Jonathan Dove
  • I was Glad – Charles Hubert Hastings Parry
  • Jesu, dulcis memoria – Tomás Luis de Victoria
