Services of Lessons and Carols

The Choir sings from the narthex at the start of a Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols

We offer four services of lessons and carols from now until Christmas Eve: two shorter versions and two traditional Festivals of Nine Lessons and Carols.

A Service of Christmas Lessons and Carols

A favorite service of the many friends of our parish, the Service of Christmas Lessons & Carols is a shortened version of a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, which was designed by Edward White Benson and which we offer at Saint Thomas in 2018 on Sunday, December 22, at 4pm and on Tuesday, December 24, at 4pm

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

This perennial favorite service consists of lessons from scripture interspersed with carols reflecting on the themes of the readings. The lessons, which cover the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus, are read by representatives of our parish.

This year’s service features works of Prendergast, Litaize, Robinson, Scott, Preston, Hawkins, Adams, Hancock, M. Martin, Filsell and Baker.
