News from Saint Thomas Church, Nursery and Sunday School for the Week of February 23, 2020

This Sunday, February 23

Prepare at home for mass by reading Matthew 17:1-9

Pre-Lenten Breakfast: bring a friend to our next Family Feast, a Pre-Lenten Breakfast, on February 23 at 10am in the Living Room of the parish house.

Our monthly Family Feasts are an informal time of fellowship for new, returning and existing families to gather with their children over a light breakfast. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing more about coming events for Children and Families at Saint Thomas Church.

Last Sunday

Our Faith Alive group reflected on their role as lectors at the 9 am Mass and began to make plans for this coming Lent.

Watch out for their creative ideas in the next few weeks!

In Sunday School, we greeted the Gospel and once again the children enjoyed taking on roles as Crucifer and Acolyte which we often see in the Mass.

We then recalled the Ten Commandments that Moses shared with the people of Israel, before reflecting on how Jesus brought a new law of love to humanity.

Our older children continued to explore the Gospel reading and explored how we deal with difficult emotions, especially when we find the law of love to be challenging. Others created loving keepsakes of our morning. In a time of prayer and reflection we each took a heart to remind us how much God loves each and everyone of us and inspires us to love God, our neighbor and ourselves.

Coming Soon

On March 7 and 8 we will be hosting our own training at Saint Thomas Church!

DIDDY DISCIPLES is an engaging resource for our youngest children to grow in faith and learn to worship as a family. Founder Sharon Moughtin-Mumby will be leading the Saturday workshop (10am-3pm) and we welcome you to join in, along with our nursery staff, Sunday school volunteers, and local family ministries workers. Please let us know if you are interested in attending!

There will also be a lesson demonstration during Sunday School to which parents are also welcome.

I look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday when we will hear the account of Jesus’ Transfiguration. This Sunday is the last Sunday in the Epiphany Season. At the Breakfast we will share our plans for Lent.

See you at the Feast- Please bring your friends!

Faithfully yours,
Mother Alison Turner
