Theology Update for the Week of July 20

Dear friends in Christ

We are coming to the end of II Corinthians. On Sunday, July 20, I will look at chapter 12 in particular, including some of the speculations that have been advanced over Paul’s mystical vision (carried to the “third heaven”) and the meaning of the “thorn in his flesh.” This class is offered twice: Sunday at 10am on the 5th floor, and Thursday at 12:40pm on the 2nd floor. We have coffee and tea as well as an often-confused Father Austin. (There will be one more class on II Corinthians and then, beginning August 3, I will start a series on the Song of Songs.)

Monday, July 21! Finally, we get to hell! (I’ve waited so long …) The Divine Comedy Seminar begins with a discussion of Dante’s Inferno cantos 1-17. Anyone who reads the text is welcome to the conversation. We meet in Andrew Hall from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.

I suppose, with the Inferno seminar upon us, it’s as good a time as any to pass on this bad news about Paradiso.

Peace
