Thoughtful Christians will ask themselves about their stewardship of their material goods. A particularly difficult saying of Jesus is his instruction to sell everything, give it to the poor, and follow me. Saint Francis famously took that literally, but it seems impossible for most of us to do so. We are not the first Christians to have asked this question: from the earliest times, Christian thinkers have pondered and written about this question. In our spring theology lecture, Professor Stephen Hildebrand shares insights on this question, Should a Christian Sell Everything? Insights from the Early Church.

The lecture is given in the church on Wednesday, March 19, at 6:30pm, shortly after the Festal Eucharist for Saint Joseph’s Day. A reception follows. Visitors are welcome, and no registration is needed.

Dr Stephen Hildebrand is a professor of theology at Franciscan University, Steubenville, Ohio.
