Haydn's The Creation oratorio

Thursday, October 27, 2016
The Eve of Saint Simon and Saint Jude
7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Advanced ticketing for this performance is now closed. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Fifth Avenue entrance beginning at 6:30pm.

In his first concert appearance with The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys, incoming Director of Music Daniel Hyde opens the 16-17 season with The Creation oratorio by F. J. Haydn.

Following a performance of Handel’s Israel in Egypt in Westminster Abbey in 1791, Haydn was fired up to write his own oratorio on a similarly large-scale biblical theme. This performance will be sung in English. The music displays Haydn’s unfussy optimism and is arguably some of the most memorable and life-enhancing music ever to have been written.
