ORGAN RECITAL
Daniel Hyde, Loening-Hancock organ

In its sixth bi-annual festival, New York Early Music Celebration 2017 features the many and varied Renaissance and Baroque repertoires that emanated from Holland and Flanders. Saint Thomas Church’s award-winning carillonneur, Julie Zhu, plays a carillon prelude on the twenty-six church bells that ring out over Fifth Avenue. Immediately following, Organist and Director of Music Daniel Hyde plays a handpicked program of North German and Dutch music, ideally suited to the gallery organ, designed and built by Taylor and Boody of Staunton, Virginia. The program will include music by the precursors to J.S. Bach displaying the kaleidoscopic sounds of the Loening-Hancock organ in music ‘avant’ Bach, by Sweelinck, Scheidt, Buxtehude, B√∂hm, and Bruhns.

No tickets required, donation requested.
