The Conversion of Saint Paul

The Conversion of Saint Paul

O God, who, by the preaching of thine apostle Paul, hast caused the light of the Gospel to shine throughout the world: Grant, we beseech thee, that we, having his wonderful conversion in remembrance, may show forth our thankfulness unto thee for the same by following the holy doctrine which he taught; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Parishioner Jeremy Waldron is offering a series of three talks on human dignity, on Mondays, January 25 through February 8. In each session Professor Waldron will give a talk of about 30 minutes, with another 30 minutes or so available for discussion.

The topics are (Jan 25) Pico, Pope and Pinker (extracts from Pico della Mirandola, from John Paul II’s “Evangelium Vitae,” and from Stephen Pinker’s skeptical piece) — (Feb 1) “Kant on an Airplane” (extracts from Immanuel Kant on dignity, along with the German airliner case) — (Feb 8) Dignity, Dwarves, and Degradation (the French “dwarf-tossing” case as an example; other examples where ideals of dignity are used to prevent degradation including self-degradation)

For a packet of suggested readings, see Father Austin.
