MASS IN B MINOR, BMV 232
YALE SCHOLA CANTORUM
with Juilliard415 and Yale Baroque Ensemble
Masaaki Suzuki, conductor

Masaaki Suzuki conducts Yale Schola Cantorum accompanied by the historic instrument ensemble, Juilliard415, in a performance of the Mass in B Minor. Considered one of Bach’s greatest compositions, the Mass in B Minor is actually a compilation of his ‚Äúbest‚Äù sacred music compiled during the final years of his life, between 1746 and 1748. The whole is a synthesis of the most important musical styles of the time, ranging from the 16thcentury fugal writing characteristic of Palestrina (stile antico) to the contemporary galant style of the Dresden court with its coloratura writing.
Yale Schola Cantorum, founded in 2003 by Simon Carrington, is a 24-voice chamber choir supported by the Yale Institute of Sacred Music with the School of Music, which specializes in music from before 1750 and the last hundred years. Since 2009 Schola Cantorum has been under the direction of Masaaki Suzuki. Suzuki is also the founder and music director of Bach Collegium Japan. He is recognized as a leading authority on the works of Bach. In addition to conducting, Masaaki Suzuki is also a renowned organist and harpsichordist. http://www.yale.edu/schola/about.htm
