The Third Sunday After Pentecost
11:00 a.m.

“Leaving Sunday”

This year, the Third Sunday after Pentecost falls on the same date as “Leaving Sunday,” the last Sunday the Class of 2010 is with us as part of the Saint Thomas Choir School (commencement and prize day ceremonies were on Saturday, June 12).

Because it is the Third Sunday after Pentecost, propers correspond accordingly and the Choral Eucharist proceeds as always in these weeks after Pentecost. However, because it also is Leaving Sunday, the Vestry is part of the Opening Procession and, near the end of the service (after the Postcommunion Prayer), the graduates are called to the High Altar rail for a blessing and to receive their crosses, a ceremony which occurs during Ubi caritas.

Both the Rector and John Scott congratulate our fine Class of 2010 in their weekly audio messages. You may listen to the Rector’s message here, in which he discusses our “unique choral heritage,” and to John Scott’s message here, in which he discusses the music for this Leaving Sunday.
