The Third Sunday After The Epiphany In the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

The Third Sunday After The Epiphany In the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

11:00 a.m.

The Third Sunday after the Epiphany falls in the midst of the week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which began, as it always does, with the Feast of the Confession of Saint Peter on January 18, and ends with the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul on January 25. On the Sunday that falls within this octave, we have a guest preacher, often but not always from outside the Episcopal Church.

This year, we have a preacher not so much outside the tradition as from outside our country. The preacher is The Right Reverend Robert Gillies, Bishop of Aberdeen, Scotland. He preaches a different sermon at each of the Sunday services: 8am, 9am, 11am and 4pm. All four sermons will be available in the sermon archive by mid-week.

You may learn more about the week of Prayer of Christian Unity (and more about Bishop Gilles) by listening to the Rector’s Weekly Message.

To learn more about the music of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, heard throughout today’s Choral Eucharist, listen to John Scott’s Music Notes.
