The Thirteenth Sunday After Pentecost
11:00 a.m.

As we are every September, we are grateful on this Sunday following Labor Day to mark the beginning of yet another choral season with the return of our beloved Saint Thomas Choir of Men & Boys, under the direction of John Scott. The full choir sings not only at this 11am Choral Eucharist and later today at the 4pm Choral Evensong, but also later this week: at weekday Choral Evensongs on Tuesday, September 13 and Thursday, September 15, and at a Festal Eucharist for Holy Cross Day on Wednesday, September 14.

Yet, even as we begin a new season in fulfillment of our mission, this day is bittersweet, for it is also the tenth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. So, during this Choral Eucharist, we will recall the events of that day, and the subsequent impact on our parish, even as we keep the appointed propers for the liturgical week. And so the collect, lessons and hymns are those appropriate for the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 19), but within the liturgy we have music from Durufl√©’s Messe de Requiem and we have words of remembrance and comfort from the Rector.

‚ñ∫In his Weekly Audio Message, the Rector speaks about the tragic events of September 11 and, fittingly, our observance later this week of Holy Cross Day.

‚ñ∫As you recall the events of 2001, you might find these sermons helpful:
