The Twenty-Second Sunday After Pentecost
11:00 a.m.

Included in this Choral Eucharist are hymns sung by the congregation and choir, additional music sung exclusively by the choir, lessons, prayers, a sermon, and a Rite I Mass. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion. Details of the service may be seen in the leaflet, which is posted at the bottom of this page, where you will also find links to the webcast during and after the service.

‚ñ∫Today begins Week Four of the 2013 Every Member Canvass. If you are one of the many hundreds who regularly listen to Sunday services on the webcasts, won’t you join those of us in the pews by making yourself known to us with a contribution to sustain the ministry of Saint Thomas? You can pledge online here. Parishioner Stuart Varney writes: What a joy it is to attend services at Saint Thomas. The choir thrills and inspires, filling our beautiful church with timeless music. The company of my fellow Christians; the hope of salvation; the joy of worship: that is our church. Now read Mathew 10:8, ‘Freely you have received. Freely give.’ I make my pledge freely, and with joy.

‚ñ∫During the greetings at today’s Choral Eucharist, the Rector thanks Fred Teardo for his six years of service as Associate Organist at Saint Thomas. This evening, Dr Teardo plays the organ for the last time as a member of the Saint Thomas staff. Read more about Dr Teardo’s exciting new appointment here.

‚ñ∫The Rector speaks about the month of November in his weekly audio message. Please join us during this month of spiritual harvest. Details for services and events throughout the month of November are currently being added to the website calendar.

Music notes: Arthur Wills was born in Coventry, England, and studied at the College of St. Nicholas in Canterbury. Almost his whole professional career has been associated with Ely Cathedral, first as Sub-Organist and then as Organist from 1958-1990. He also held a Professorship at the Royal Academy of Music from 1964-1992. A prolific composer of choral and organ music, his Short Communion Service was composed in 1961. As the title suggests, the work is a concise and practical setting of the Mass, scored for men’s voices in three parts. The reduced scoring lends the music an austere and ethereal quality, notable for its economy of gesture.
