The Fourth Sunday After The Epiphany

The Fourth Sunday After The Epiphany

Almighty and everlasting God, who dost govern all things in heaven and earth: Mercifully hear the supplications of thy people, and in our time grant us thy peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

4:00 p.m.

Lord, Teach Us to Pray: Beginning at today’s Choral Evensong, and extending for fourteen additional Sundays, the clergy of Saint Thomas, along with distinguished visiting clergy, will preach on the topic of prayer, including a line-by-line reflection on The Lord’s Prayer. We invite you to attend Choral Evensong each Sunday throughout this special series, or to listen to the webcasts. In addition, the written text and an audio file of the individual sermons will be posted to the sermon archive and will also be accessible from the Prayer Sermon Series page within a few days after each sermon is preached.

‚ñ∫The Rector speaks about the Prayer Sermon Series, as well as the Requiem for Gerre Hancock, in his weekly audio message.

About Choral Evensong: Based on the services held daily in the medieval Church, Choral Evensong as arranged in the Book of Common Prayer of the Anglican Church has been sung regularly since the Sixteenth Century. Many people who are new to worship at Saint Thomas prefer to come to Choral Evensong because it is relatively passive. The service includes readings (just as would occur at Evening Prayer) and prayers led by a priest. An anthem as well as a setting of the Magnificat and the Nunc dimittis are sung by the choir. Read more about Choral Evensong here, or view the Choral Evensong Service Card posted to the bottom of this page, where links to the webcast will be posted during and after the service.

‚ñ∫There is no Mass following Choral Evensong on Sundays. If you would like to make your Holy Communion for the week, consider attending one of the morning Eucharists, or else at any of the other sixteen masses at Saint Thomas later this week.

‚ñ∫If you are new to Saint Thomas, new to the Episcopal Church, and/or new to Christianity, consider attending the Rector’s Christian Doctrine Class, which began anew on Tuesday, January 10 and continues on Tuesday, January 31 at 6:30pm.
