3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. | Saint Thomas Church
In her centennial year, we celebrate Jeanne Demessieux as one of the great virtuosi of the 20th century, graduating from Marcel Dupré’s organ class at the Paris Conservatoire in 1941. She gave over 700 recitals across Europe and America, often astounding audiences by playing the organ in high-heeled shoes. As a composer, she left music which represents an outstanding continuation of Dupré’s great artistic legacy.
This 3-concert series is played by organist, Stephen Tharp, who is hailed as “the organist for the connoisseur” (organ – Journal für die Orgel, Germany) and is recognized as one of the great concert organists of our age. Tharp’s commercial release The Complete Organ Works of Jeanne Demessieux on Aeolus Recordings, received the 2009 Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, Germany’s premier critic’s prize for recordings, as well as the French 5 Diapason award.
