The Sixth Sunday Of Easter

The Sixth Sunday Of Easter

O God, who hast prepared for those who love thee such good things as pass man's understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards thee, that we, loving thee in all things and above all things, may obtain thy promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

11:00 a.m.

There is much going on liturgically this week, and this Festal Eucharist anticipates all of it:

‚ñ∫In his Weekly Message, the Rector explains Rogationtide. The Sixth Sunday of Easter is also known as Rogation Sunday, as it prepares us for the three days for Rogation before Ascension Day.We will celebrate Rogation Days on Monday and Wednesday with services in the Chantry Chapel.

‚ñ∫While the hymns today have rogation themes (pay close attention to the words), the music at the Offertory and at the Communion have Marian themes. These anthems anticipate the Feast of the Visitation, which we celebrate on Tuesday, May 31 with services in the Chantry at 8am and 12:10pm, and with a choral Festal Eucharist at the High Altar at 5:30pm.

‚ñ∫The Gospel today (John 14:15-21) prepares us for Christ’s session at the right hand of the Father, which we celebrate this Thursday on Ascension Day (the 40th Day of Eastertide). The Gospel also anticipates the Day of Pentecost (the 50th Day of Easter), the coming of the Holy Spirit.

‚ñ∫Holy Communion is distributed today at the High Altar rail and also at the Chantry rail.
