Saint Mary Magdalene

Saint Mary Magdalene

[caption id="attachment_272961" align="alignnone" width="1500"] Christ depicted with Mary Magdalen in the Peace Window in the clerestory of Saint Thomas Church[/caption] Almighty God, whose blessed Son restored Mary Magdalene to health of body and mind, and called her to be a witness of his resurrection: Mercifully grant that by thy grace we may be healed of all our infirmities and know thee in the power of his endless life; who with thee and the Holy Spirit liveth and reigneth, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

11:00 a.m.

Above: Mary Magdalene in the Peace Window of Saint Thomas Church. This depiction has her facing Christ at the empty tomb (Chist is not shown). Notice how her arms are crossed, with one hand wanting to reach out to touch him, the other as if to hold herself back.

From today’s Gospel reading (John 20:11-18): Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

Included in this Festal Eucharist are hymns sung by the congregation and choir, additional music sung exclusively by the choir, lessons, prayers, a sermon, and a Rite I Mass. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion. Details of the service may be seen in the leaflet, which is posted at the bottom of this page, where you will also find links to the webcast during and after the service. ‚ñ∫We are pleased to welcome back today the members of New York Polyphony, who sing at the 11am Festal Eucharist.

‚ñ∫Notice that all the hymns today have resurrection themes.
