Almighty God, who didst inspire thy servant Luke the physician to set forth in the Gospel the love and healing power of thy Son: Graciously continue in thy Church the like love and power to heal, to the praise and glory of thy Name; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Above: Saint Luke in the reredos of Saint Thomas Church. Notice the words on the scroll, which is Greek for “the Gospel according to Saint Luke the Evangelist.” Notice also the image of Virgin with Child on the scroll. It is the Gospel of Saint Luke which gives us most of the familiar imagery of the nativity story, and also the words for the Magnificat‚Äîthe Song of Mary.
This evening, in lieu of Choral Evensong, we have a weekday Festal Eucharist for Saint Luke. All baptized Christians are invited to rail for Holy Communion. The order of service is somewhat similar to the Sunday 9am Sung Eucharist, with some variations. Please see the service card posted to the bottom of this page.
