Theology Class: Handel's Messiah and the Spirit of Advent

Sunday, December 11, 2022
10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. | Parish House, 5th Floor, and via Zoom

An on-demand video of this class is available above and on our YouTube channel.

The Rev. Dr. Luigi Gioia

The Rev. Dr. Luigi Gioia, Associate for Adult Education and Formation, lead this session on Handel’s masterwork, which features the whole of Jesus’ life: Nativity, Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension. Why then should the piece be especially performed during the season of Advent? Is it just because it starts with Jesus’s birth? We will see that there are theological and spiritual reasons that explain why this oratorio resonates especially with the liturgical season of Advent.

Contact Fr. Gioia for more information about Theology at Saint Thomas.
