Sidney Stires, beloved Warden, Vestryman and Benefactor of Saint Thomas Church and Choir School, grandson of our distinguished Eighth Rector Ernest Stires, died peacefully in his sleep on October 4, 2012 in Venice, Italy. Sidney was 82.
His wife Judith predeceased him in 2008. Sidney lived to see his grandson, Sidney Wright, graduate from the Saint Thomas Choir School this past June. Sidney’s two sons, Tom and Wicks, are also Choir School graduates.
Informing the staff of his death, Rev’d Andrew C. Mead, Rector, said of Sidney, “He was a man of clear, transparent faith in the Lord and of love for his Church ‚Äì and Saint Thomas Church in particular. May the soul of God’s faithful servant rest in peace, and may he rise with Christ in glory.”
Service details: We originally had Choral Evensong scheduled for this day and time, and so the service follows the format of Choral Evensong, with canticles from Howell’s St. Paul’s Service. The lessons have been changed from those appointed for this calendar day to lessons appropriate for a Memorial service, and additional music has been added. All are invited to attend, just as at any Choral Evensong, and the service will be webcast live and then available on-demand.
