Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday

Almighty and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made and dost forgive the sins of all those who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

8:00 a.m.

Remember, O man, that dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

This Said Mass at the High Altar is ideal for those who can attend an early morning service. The 8am Liturgy is shorter than the 12:10pm and 5:30pm Liturgies. After the Invitation to an Observance of a Holy Lent, the priest blesses the ashes. Then, the congregation comes forward for the imposition of ashes on their foreheads as the priest reminds them that “dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”

After the Confession of Sin, there is a low mass at the High Altar. All baptized Christians are welcome to make their communion to begin this most holy of seasons.

‚ñ∫The Rector speaks about Lenten disciplines in his weekly audio message.

‚ñ∫Consider setting aside some time each day in this holy season for prayer and Lenten meditation.
