The Third Sunday After The Epiphany In the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Revelation of Saint John the Divine is one of the most peculiar and controversial books of the Bible. Also called by its anglicized Greek name, the Apocalypse, the book’s imagery, language, and claims about heaven, earth, and the relationship between them, have captivated Christians for millennia. This class will look closely at the book, guided by several recent Anglican commenaries.

In the fourteenth chapter John sees how the 144,000 saints, marked with the name of God, marshal their troops in the face of opposition by the dragon and his beasts. They don’t take up arms, however. What they do is quite unexpected, and quite beautiful.
