The Last Sunday after Pentecost: Christ the King

The Last Sunday after Pentecost: Christ the King

Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

What is the ethical content of the Psalms, and how is their instruction conveyed? These are the questions behind the new Sunday class, “The Ethics of the Psalms,” which begins September 16. Visitors welcome any Sunday at 10 a.m. on the 5th floor.

Today’s topic: More on the narrative Psalms and the ethical teaching that they convey. We’ll be looking particularly at Psalm 78, but also 104, 105, and 106. If you want, you might read Psalm 78 beforehand. The question is: when we sing or recite these stories of Israel’s history, what theological and ethical teaching is being conveyed, and how?
