The Revelation of Saint John the Divine. After several weeks away, the Sunday class resumes its study of the great Christian apocalypse on January 15. We pick up with the thirteenth chapter, in which John sees a beast rise up out of the sea, summoned by the dragon. Then he sees a beast rise up out of the earth, whose infamous “number” is “six hundred threescore and six.” The themes of these middle chapters of Revelation are dark and violent indeed, making it all the more important for the reader to stay focused on the Lamb–slaughtered but victorious–and keep the faith in the coming of the New Jerusalem. The class meets at 10 a.m. on the fifth floor.

The Rector’s Christian Doctrine Class: Pilgrims on The Way. This year’s class has its first session Tuesday, January 17. The topic of the class is God the Father: Creation, the Fall, and what it means to be “made in God’s image.”
This class is a systematic treatment of the essentials of the Christian faith, as received through the Catholic heritage of Anglicanism within the Episcopal Church. The sessions run every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. until April 4, when there is a break for Holy Week and Easter. Sessions resume on April 25 and continue through May 16. The service of Confirmation and Reception of those from other churches will be on Sunday, May 21 at 11 a.m.
