The Rosary

“Generally offered on the first Saturday of the month at 10am on Zoom.

Throughout its history the Church has commended the use of many forms of prayer to those who seek a deeper relationship with God. One of these prayer methods given to us by the tradition of the Church is the Holy Rosary.

In the Rosary, we pray our way through the New Testament lives of Jesus and his mother Mary.   We contemplate twenty moments in the New Testament story grouped into four sets of “mysteries.”  As we pray the prayers of the rosary, we meditate on these mysteries.

The Joyful Mysteries (Christ’s Birth and Childhood)

  1.  The Annunciation (Luke 1:28)
  2.  The Visitation (Luke 1:41-42)
  3.  The Nativity (Luke 2:7)
  4.  The Presentation (Luke 2:22-23)
  5.  The Finding of the Child Jesus Teaching in the Temple (Luke 2:46)

The Luminous Mysteries (Christ’s Life and Ministry)

  1. Christ’s Baptism in the Jordan (Mark 1:10)
  2. Christ’s First Miracle at the Wedding at Cana (John 2:11)
  3. Christ’s Proclamation of the Kingdom of God (Mark 1:15)
  4. The Transfiguration (Matthew 17:2)
  5. The Institution of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper (Luke 22:19)

The Sorrowful Mysteries (Christ’s Passion and Death)

  1. The Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22:44-45)
  2. The Scourging at the Pillar (John 19:1)
  3. The Crowning with Thorns (Matthew 27: 28-29)
  4. The Carrying of the Cross (John 19:17)
  5. The Crucifixion (Luke 23:46)

The Glorious Mysteries (Christ’s Resurrection and Christian Hope)

  1. The Resurrection (Mark 16:6)
  2. The Ascension (Mark 16:19)
  3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4)
  4. The Assumption (Revelation 12:1)
  5. The Coronation (Judith 15: 9-11)

By prayerfully meditating on the mysteries of the Gospel and asking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we hope to grow in our love of Jesus and in our imitation of him and his mother.
