Upcoming Theology Classes and Events

Ecclesiastes
At 10 o’clock on Sunday, January 4, Father Austin concludes the study of Ecclesiastes. Visitors are welcome: on the fifth floor of the Parish House.

The Rector’s Christian Doctrine Class
On Tuesday, January 13, the Rector’s Christian Doctrine Class will begin. This is a 14-session course of study on Christian faith and practice as this church has received them. If you are interested in joining Saint Thomas, in being confirmed or received, or just in a good refresher, this class is for you. It meets on most Tuesdays through early May in Andrew Hall from 6:30 to 7:30pm.

Special One-Time Class
Next Sunday, January 11, parishioner (and poetry-scholar) Robert Duvall will speak about T. S. Eliot’s “Ariel” poems, particularly the famous “Journey of the Magi” but also some lesser-known works. Visitors are welcome: on the fifth floor at 10am.

Good Books and Good Talk
Christopher Beha has well been described as a courageous writer who “places sincere religious feelings at the very center of contemporary young urban life.” His first novel, What Happened to Sophie Wilder, will be discussed on Monday, January 26, from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. Anyone who reads the book is welcome to the conversation.

A Conversation with Christopher Beha
Then on Wednesday, February 4, starting at 6:30 p.m. (following the short Eucharist that follows the 5:30 Evensong), Christopher Beha himself will speak in the church on “Faith and Fiction.” Parishioners (and writers) Heather Cross and Andrea Lippke will then respond to his talk and, with Father Austin, engage him in a public conversation. There will be time for questions; a reception will follow. This event is free and open to the public.
