Meet the Gentlemen of the Choir: Padraic Costello, countertenor

Having earned a graduate degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hawaii, Padraic is especially invested in the social and cultural contexts of music and performance. He is committed to presenting works by new composers, and is part of a 20-member improvisational collective in Hawaii comprised of artists from across East/Southeast Asia, Polynesia, and the United States, which mounts several projects a year focused on exploring cross-cultural exchange and identity. Outside of classical singing, Padraic, who currently serves as the Music Librarian at Saint Thomas Church, is also trained in traditional Japanese music, and studies the Japanese koto as a member of the Sawai Koto Kai school.
