Welcome to new Head Verger David Bryan

Originally from Durham, North Carolina, David Bryan grew up in the Episcopal Church and has lived in New York City for 22 years. In this time, he has worn a variety of professional hats: academician, singer, band leader, composer, church administrator, youth group director. David plays mandolin, guitar, and piano—and dabbles in lap dulcimer, fiddle and autoharp—and has been writing music in different genres since high school. He holds degrees in music and religious studies, including an MA in theology from Union Theological Seminary, and has taught at Hunter College and the College of New Rochelle. As a church musician, he has sung with many notable ensembles in town, including the New York Philharmonic, American Symphony Orchestra, and Early Music New York.

David comes to us from nearby St. Bartholomew’s Church, where he sang in their professional choir for 20 years. Over that time, he also served as Choral Librarian, Communications Associate, Director of Welcome, and, most recently, as Liturgy Coordinator. For much of this year, he has served as Youth Director for an ecumenical group of churches in Irvington, NY.

In his spare time, he is a college basketball fanatic, dotes on his adorable cats, loves to travel, dabbles in photography and languages (he is currently learning Norwegian for an upcoming trip), blogs, and makes salsa worthy of a blue ribbon.
