The Theology of Evil and Suffering (3)
Can we Believe in a Good and All-Powerful God when we see so much Suffering in the World?
Fr Luigi Gioia
Theologian in Residence
Dear Friends,
Next Sunday, February 23, we carry on the series of talks on the Theology of Evil and Suffering.
Faith in God puts us in the situation of having to hold together that everything was created by God out of nothing, that God is loving, and that he is all-powerful. Last week we saw how a loving God can allow evil and suffering. Next Sunday we shall see how theologians and spiritual authors have wrestled with the idea of an all-powerful God who seems unable or unwilling to prevent evil and suffering from happening in the world.
As a reminder, here are the titles of the series of four talks (if you click on the first title you will be redirected to the video-recording).
1. “Why is there so much Evil and Suffering in the World?” (February 9)
2. “Can Suffering be God Punishing or Warning Us?” (February 16)
3. “Can we Believe in a Good God when we see so much Suffering in the World?” (February 23)
4. “Is There Any Value in Suffering?” (March 2)
I look forward to welcoming you as usual in the Parish House, Fifth Floor room, at 9:45 am for coffee and cookies.
The talk will start at 10 am and will be in person and also streamed live on YouTube (the link will be sent to you on Saturday)
