Solemn Liturgies of the Triduum

The liturgies of the Triduum, offered at 5:30 p.m. on Maundy Thursday (April 17), Good Friday (April 18), and Holy Saturday (April 19), are the central acts of the global observance of Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday

The 5:30pm service is the first of the Three Solemn liturgies of the Triduum, the central acts of the global observance of Holy Week. offered on Maundy Thursday (April 17), Good Friday (April 18), and Holy Saturday (April 19). On Maundy Thursday we commemorate the Institution of the Holy Eucharist and Christs’ betrayal.

Good Friday

On Good Friday we remember Christ’s death on the Cross. The two primary services are the noon Three Hours Vigil, when The Rev Dr. Willie J. Jennings will offer meditations on the Seven Last Words of Christ, and the 5:30 p.m Solemn Liturgy of Our Lord’s Passion, the second service of the Triduum. Confessions will also be available at several points throughout the day.

Holy Saturday

At the 5:30 p.m. Great Vigil and First Eucharist of Easter we recall the saving acts of God throughout history, baptize new members of the faith, and celebrate Christ’s victory over death.

Easter Sunday

During the seven weeks of Eastertide we recount the resurrection appearances of Jesus before his ascension, as told in the Gospels. We also hear the story of the effect of Christ’s resurrection and ascension on the lives and vocations of those who were contemporaries of Jesus, as told in the Acts of the Apostles.
