Lent is almost upon us and, in preparation, this Sunday we will hear the powerful Gospel story of the Transfiguration of Jesus on the Mountain.

Laetare Sunday – the Fourth Sunday in Lent, also known as ‘Refreshment Sunday’ – will be very special this year. On March 13, God willing, Sr. Promise will be ordained as a priest. She will celebrate mass for the first time on Sunday, March 14 at 11 am.

Like many last Wednesday, I was mesmerized by the sight of 22-year-old Amanda Gorman, inaugural National Poet Laureate of 2017, reading her poem ‘The Hill We Climb’ and I marveled even more when I discovered that it was poetry that had helped her overcome a speech impediment of many years.

We live in a time of great contrasts. Last week, we witnessed a mob storming the Capitol Building in Washington DC; next week, we shall witness the inauguration ceremony of the 46th President of the United States. 

Wednesday was the Feast of the Epiphany, when we celebrated Christ the hope of all the nations with the visit of the Magi and their gifts filled with precious meaning.
