The Rector’s Weekly Messages

Welcome back gentlemen! Yes, this Sunday, at our pre-recorded service available from 8am, we will have the first ensemble of the gentlemen of the choir since we closed the church in March because of the pandemic. 

What a delight it was to receive the first of our ‘Dispatches from Incarnation Center’ that allowed us all to have a flavor of the Choir School as it gathers during these extraordinary times.

This week we have learned of the death of two beloved members of our parish family – Bill Miller and Ruta Abolins.  They are what we like to call in the UK, “Pillars of the Church” and, as I suggest later in my letter, living stones.  They were so supportive of Saint Thomas Church and its Choir School.  They will be sorely missed.

While wearing a mask at the altar during various moments in the liturgy, I have been known to be distracted by how it rubs against my nose or feels around my ears. I have been worried about how to use it properly. But, I have also been known to meditate on the angels that the prophet Isaiah heard singing “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of Hosts,” and how even those fiery seraphim had to protectively hide their faces from the glory of the Presence of the Lord with two of their wings.

September 14 is the anniversary of my first Sunday mass with you all – it is also Holy Cross Day.

The situation in New York continues to give us hope that we are through the worst of the Pandemic. 

It certainly will be a summer to remember. September is around the corner, and the Choir School will soon be starting a new academic year not in New York, but in Connecticut.
