The Sixth Sunday Of Easter
O God, who hast prepared for those who love thee such good things as pass man's understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards thee, that we, loving thee in all things and above all things, may obtain thy promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Above: From the Peace Window at Saint Thomas Church. Today’s gospel: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. [John 14:27]
Included in this Festal Eucharist are hymns sung by the congregation and choir, additional music sung exclusively by the choir, lessons, prayers, a sermon, and a Rite I Mass. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion. Details of the service may be seen in the leaflet, posted at the bottom of this page, where you will also find links to the webcast during and after the service.
Music notes: The ‘Chichester Mass’ by William Albright was commissioned by the Very Reverend Walter Hussey, who was Dean of Chichester (Sussex, UK) from 1955 to 1977. His autobiography is very aptly titled ‘Patron of Arts’, for during his lifetime he was responsible for commissioning some iconic works of twentieth century music and visual art, first as Vicar of St Matthew’s Church, Northampton and subsequently as Dean of Chichester Cathedral. Thus, his legacy consists of works by Benjamin Britten (‘Rejoice in the Lamb’), William Walton, Henry Moore, Marc Chagall, John Piper and Graham Sutherland.
William Albright created a large body of works in various styles for various musical media. Even in his youth, he received recognition for his originality and indeed for his daring as an imaginative creator. A Professor of Music at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, he was a prize-winning composer of contemporary music. Albright’s brief and colorful setting of the Mass text is given movement by bold and energetic rhythmic patterns.
