Tuesday In Holy Week

Tuesday In Holy Week

O God, by the passion of thy blessed Son didst make an instrument of shameful death to be unto us the means of life: Grant us so to glory in the cross of Christ, that we may gladly suffer shame and loss for the sake of thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Miller-Scott Organ

In celebration of the new Miller-Scott Organ, this year’s musical meditations include two contrasting Passion symphonies by the French composer, Marcel Dupr√©, and the Belgian composer, Paul de Maleingreau. Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to the Easter Vigil, has inspired powerful compositions reflecting on the life of Christ leading to the mystery, anguish and joy of Passiontide.

Originally an improvised symphony on liturgical themes, Marcel Dupr√©’s Symphonie-Passion is a kaleidoscopic representation of the life of Christ in four movements; Advent, Christmas, Crucifixion and Resurrection. Maleingreau’s Symphonie de la Passion vividly depicts pivotal events from the Passion of Christ. Both symphonies draw heavily on Gregorian chant and promise to show off the full range of color and power of the Miller Scott organ. No tickets required, donation requested.
