10:00 a.m.-10:45 a.m. | Parish House, 5th Floor, and via Zoom

A lecture by the Very Rev. Michael Tavinor, Dean Emeritus of Hereford, UK (in-person and via Zoom).

While shrines of the saints and relics are very much part of Roman Catholic tradition, in recent years, in England and Wales, there have been moves to rehabilitate this devotion, especially in cathedrals. The talk charts the development of this, gives examples, and considers whether or not this is in keeping with our Anglican, Reformed tradition and how it might enrich our spirituality today.

BIO The Very Revd Michael Tavinor studied music at Durham and London universities and theology at Oxford, before being ordained in 1983. After a curacy in London, he was Precentor of Ely Cathedral and Vicar of Tewkesbury Abbey. From 2002-21 he was Dean of Hereford Cathedral. During his time as Dean he made a particular focus on beautifying the building and restoring two shrines of the cathedral’s saints. He now lives in retirement in Presteigne in mid-Wales.

The Adult Education program at Saint Thomas Church offers sound Christian teaching presented with intellectual vigor, teaching that is grounded in Holy Scripture, mediated by the catholic tradition that is the inheritance of Anglicanism and set forth in the Book of Common Prayer.
