Cornelius the Centurion
O God, who by your Spirit called Cornelius the Centurion to be the first Christian among the Gentiles: Grant to your church such a ready will to go where you send and to do what you command that the prejudices that blind us might cease, and that we might welcome all who turn to you in love; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The late Anglican clergyman and spiritual writer, Kenneth Leech recounts an Easter Christian story of a person who came to a monk and asked, ‚Äú’Father, what is prayer?’ The monk held out his hands and flames shot up from his fingers. ‘That is prayer,’ he said. He was a soul on fire, and when necessary he could manifest the fact.‚Äù For most of us, we will never experience prayer of that sort, but that does not prevent us from desiring to pray better and to pray deeper.
Please plan on attending either this or the final class of a four-session course on prayer. Fathers Turner and Spurlock were pleased to join Saint Thomas parishioner Brett Moore, and spiritual director Kari Kristina Reeves in teaching this course.
Tonight Father Turner will teach the third class taking us further into the experience of prayer through a sensory experience of prayer. Please note that this session will start in Andrew Hall and will move to the chancel in the midst of the Choir stalls.
Our final session on Febraury 11 will be led by spiritual director Kari Kristina Reeves, who will explore different kinds of prayer and help us learn how to expereince these different modes of prayer in unique ways.
The classes are free and open to the public.
While not required, we are pleased to recommend a text for the course, Canyon Road: A Book of Prayer written by Kari Reeves. Hardback copies of Kari’s book will be available for sale at each session of the class for a cost of $40, and will also be made available for sale in our bookstore.
